El Museo de las columnas, el sitio es espectacular

This hypostyle mosque has many historic features although there is also considerable reconstruction. Its numerous carved wood columns, characteristic of Khiva style, date from many periods. Some of the oldest. columns, each carved from a single log, bear early Arabic inscriptions and designs reflective of Sogdian and pre-Islamic Sasanian heritage. This is a very beautiful space and a good place to escape the heat mid-day, for contemplation, regaining strength, writing notes, experiencing history, etc. NOTE: there seems to be some confusion between Juma Mosque and Djuma Mosque. This review is of the old Friday Mosque in Khiva.
